Catoctin Creek (Karmen)
In 2012 the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, in response to citizen concerns about reliable broadband and wireless services, requested that the Loudoun County Communications Commission complete an analysis that identified under served and unserved areas of Western Loudoun County (“Gap Analysis”). The Taylorstown, Lovettsville Road and Downey Mill Road area was identified as one of the locations that lacked service and was given the designator of Proposed Communications Tower Development Area 1 (“PCTDA 1”) Many homes and businesses in this area also do not have access to broadband services. This proposed project will provide improved wireless coverage, capacity and speed in this area. The mobile data network utilized by the Loudoun County’s public safety network has material coverage issues in this area. This project will also address that coverage issue.
Invisible Towers has identified a location that will address the technical requirements for PCTDA 1 while balancing the visual impact on the community. The proposed tower would be located on the Karmen Farm Property along Lovettsville Road. We are proposing a 195-foot Galvanized Steel Monopole. Although 195 feet seems tall for a typical monopole, this height is necessary to create line of sight to key homes and busineses that currently lack broadband options in the community. This line of sight is also critical for the delivery of 5G services to the rural portion of the county. The large national carriers’ 5G networks will require line-of-sight for delivery of these emerging services. This broadband infrastructure will accommodate a broadband service provider at the top of the tower as well as four (4) wireless carriers on lower platforms.
